This Sesame Street social impact project was one of the most poignant and significant endeavors of my design career. I was privileged to be the Design Lead and Art Director for this extremely important initiative, launching the first Autistic muppet and resources around autism for children and families from Sesame Street into the world. I was honored with an Emmy nomination for 'Lead Art Director' in 'Outstanding Digital Media’ for the design and art direction of various components, including a responsive website, app, digital storybook, and promotional video.
In one year’s time after launch, this powerful initiative generated more than 1.6 million page views, and had more than 400,000 users and 30,000 app downloads.
This beautiful highlight reel was developed with input from parents, autism service providers, and people with autism. With over 530,253 views on Youtube, it fosters an affirming narrative around autism for all families and kids.
Using a ‘cut paper’ style illustration, the design seamlessly aligned with the animation style and functionality of HTML5 technology, providing an interactive and visually inviting digital reading experience that gently introduces children to the nuances of friendship with individuals with autism.
